Behind every great program is a coaching staff that believes in more than just winning. At Mansfield High School Baseball, the men who lead this program at every level share a common commitment — to develop student-athletes who are better players, better teammates, and better people by the time they leave this program. From the Varsity diamond to the Froshmore field, the Hornets are coached by individuals who bring decades of playing experience, competitive credibility, and a genuine passion for the game to everything they do.

Chris Hall

Head Varsity Coach

Coach Hall began his high school coaching career in 2012 as the Head Assistant at Foxboro High School, where he spent three seasons with the Warriors. During that time, he also led the Foxboro Post 93 Junior Legion summer program, guiding the team to its first-ever state tournament appearance.

In 2015, Coach Hall returned to his alma mater, Mansfield High School, serving as an assistant under Coach Breen. Over five seasons, he helped lead the Hornets to two Hockomock League championships and consecutive Super 8 appearances in 2018 and 2019.

Coach Hall was named Head Varsity Baseball Coach at Mansfield High School in 2021. Since taking over the program, he has guided the Hornets to three additional Hockomock League championships, the program's first-ever Final Four appearance in 2022, and Elite Eight appearances in 2023 and 2025. He currently holds an overall record of 147–79, good for a .650 winning percentage.

Off the field, Coach Hall is in his 11th year as a Special Education and Academic Support Teacher at Mansfield High School and also serves as the Head Varsity Golf Coach. He enjoys visiting MLB ballparks, traveling, playing golf, and attending concerts. Coach Hall resides in North Attleboro, Massachusetts with his wife, Maggie.

Assistant Varsity Coach

A 1984 graduate of Bentley University, Coach Bob Johnson is entering his 6th season as Assistant Varsity Coach of the Mansfield High School Baseball program in 2026.

Coach Johnson also spends his summers managing in America's oldest amateur baseball league, the Boston Park League, for the TJO's Sports club — a role he has held for the last 15 seasons. Over that time, he has led his team to 14 consecutive playoff appearances, won the championship three times, and been awarded Manager of the Year three times. He also serves as the league's Secretary/Treasurer.

As a player, Coach Johnson was a four-year starting shortstop for Bentley University and a 1994 inductee into the Bentley Athletic Hall of Fame. His accolades include:

  • ABCA Division II All-New England – 1984 (1st Team)

  • All Northeast-10 – 1984 (1st Team), 1981 (2nd Team)

  • ABCA Division II All-Northeast Region – 1984 (3rd Team), 1981 (3rd Team)

  • MVP – 1984, 1983

Coach Johnson also played football and baseball at Catholic Memorial High School — where he was part of the 1978 Super Bowl Championship team — and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2010. He earned his BS in Accounting and MBA in Finance from Bentley University.

Coach Nagle brings over a decade of coaching experience and a lifelong dedication to the game. A graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School, he developed a strong foundation as a player before transitioning into coaching, where he has become known for his steady leadership, player-first approach, and commitment to fundamentals.

He began his coaching career with American Legion Foxboro Post 93, serving as an Assistant Coach from 2013 to 2016, helping develop young athletes in one of the region's most competitive summer baseball environments.

From 2015 to 2024, he served as an Assistant Varsity Coach at Bishop Feehan High School, where he played a key role in player development, game strategy, and building a competitive, team-centered culture.

In 2025, Coach Nagle joined Mansfield High School as an Assistant Varsity Coach, continuing his mission to mentor student-athletes, elevate their skills, and foster a strong, disciplined program. With experience across high school and Legion baseball, he brings a balanced blend of technical knowledge, teaching ability, and passion for helping players grow both on and off the field.

Bryan Saffelle

Pitching Coordinator

Bryan Saffelle is in his fourth season with the Mansfield Hornets and serves as the program's Pitching Coordinator. A member of the Mansfield High School Class of 2009, Saffelle was a three-year varsity player before continuing his career at Long Island University Brooklyn.

After injuries impacted his collegiate playing career, Saffelle shifted his focus to coaching, with an emphasis on arm care and injury prevention for his pitchers. He began his coaching career in 2014 with Foxboro Legion Post 93 and was named Head Coach in 2017, succeeding longtime coach Billy Travers. During his four-year tenure leading Post 93, Saffelle helped develop numerous players and built a strong foundation within the program.

Following his time in Foxboro, Saffelle joined the Canton High School staff, where he spent two seasons with the Bulldogs continuing to grow as a coach and mentor. In 2023, he returned to his alma mater to join the Mansfield coaching staff.

Off the field, Saffelle resides in North Attleboro, Massachusetts with his soon-to-be wife, Leslie — an avid supporter of the Hornets — and their dog, TJ, appropriately named after Tommy John surgery, a nod to his passion for the game. Proud to wear the Green and White again, Saffelle is committed to getting the best out of the pitching staff every single day.

Head Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Kemp returns for his third year with the Mansfield High School Baseball program, working closely with the Junior Varsity team. He brings a well-rounded background in both playing and officiating, along with a strong commitment to developing student-athletes.

Following his high school career, Kemp went on to play at Bryant College, where he primarily pitched. His experience at the collegiate level helped shape his understanding of the game and continues to influence his approach to coaching.

After his playing career, Kemp remained deeply involved in baseball, spending eight years as an umpire in various Boston-area leagues. His time as an official provided him with a unique perspective on the game, enhancing his knowledge of rules, situational awareness, and overall game management. In addition to his role at Mansfield High School, Kemp has contributed to player development through his work with RBI Academy and the GBG Hawks program.

Beyond baseball, Coach Kemp is an active member of the Mansfield High School athletic community, also serving as a coach for the girls soccer and basketball programs. He resides in Mansfield, Massachusetts with his wife, Kelly. Together, they raised their three daughters, all of whom attended Mansfield High School.

Ed Donoghue

Assistant Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Ed Donoghue joins the Mansfield High School Baseball program this year following his recent retirement from the school district, where he previously served as the Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Operations for over eight years. During his tenure, Coach Donoghue was a strong advocate for athletics, consistently supporting student-athletes and working to enhance athletic programs and facilities across the district.

Now transitioning to the field, Coach Donoghue brings that same dedication, leadership, and passion to the baseball program. He is eager to contribute to the development of student-athletes, emphasizing teamwork, accountability, and a positive, competitive environment.

A passionate Boston sports fan, Coach Donoghue loves to travel and values every opportunity to explore new places and experiences. Off the field, he enjoys spending time with family and staying connected to the Mansfield community he has proudly served for years.

Coach Otto is a middle school physical education teacher at QMS and also serves as a multi-sport coach at Mansfield High School. He currently coaches the Junior Varsity girls basketball team and has been leading the Froshmore Baseball team for six years.

Throughout his coaching career, Coach Otto has remained focused on player development, continuous improvement, and fostering a positive team culture both on and off the field. He takes pride in helping student-athletes grow their skills, build confidence, and develop a genuine love for the game. Coach Otto looks forward to another great season filled with learning, teamwork, and success.

A former center fielder at the University of New Haven, O'Reilly is a dedicated baseball coach committed to developing well-rounded student-athletes. He brings firsthand collegiate playing experience, a deep understanding of outfield play, situational baseball, and a team-first approach to every practice and game.

Coach O'Reilly's coaching philosophy centers on fundamentals, accountability, and helping players build confidence both on and off the field. He is committed to fostering a positive, supportive team culture — one where every athlete is prepared to compete at their highest level and grow as both a player and a person.

He takes pride in helping student-athletes grow their skills, build confidence, and develop a genuine love for the game. At every level of the Mansfield High School Baseball program, the coaching staff operates with a shared set of values that go beyond the scoreboard. We believe in developing the complete athlete — sharpening skills, building character, and instilling the kind of discipline and accountability that serves our players long after their final game in a Hornets uniform. From the first day of Froshmore practice to the final out of a Varsity postseason run, every player in this program is coached with the same standard of excellence and the same genuine investment in who they are becoming.
